A search to find the tallest tree in Oregon mixes technology with death-defying climbing.

Currently, the tallest known tree in Oregon is the Brummit Fir (aka the Doerner Fir), a 327-foot Douglas fir giant in Coos County. But as scientists use LiDAR technology to map more and more of the state’s landscape, they are finding tall trees no one knew about in remote locations — trees that could be even taller than the Brummit.
