- We left Series 8 on a high.
- Life couldn't be better, I think, especially after the last few series.
- So everything's good at the start in Series 9.
- Everything's rosy and we start with a beautiful circus.
- Life seems good finally.
But, there's this sense that Will isn't achieving what he wants to and the Bishop offers him an offer he may not be able to refuse.
- Grantchester will endure, but there are less fortunate places.
- Will and Bonnie both feel like there's more that they could do.
- [Will] What about Geordie?
- He survived Burma, he'd get through us leaving.
Question is, do you want to?
- It really tears him up about what his future is.
- [Will] You don't settle, do you?
- Stability isn't always happiness.
- I've been offered a job.
- Around Geordie, everybody's moving on, but Geordie is standing still and he can't bear the thought of his best friend leaving.
- [Will] You are not making this easy.
- Reverend Will Davenport has gone, so we need a new vicar.
(engine roaring) - My name is Rishi Nair and I play Alphy Kottaram.
- Pleasure to meet you, Mrs?
- Chapman.
- Is he handsome?
- Esme!

- The episode that he comes into is so strong, so beautifully written, - [Geordie] The new vicar.
- I need your help with the case.
- Alphy is such a welcomed edition.
- [Miss Scott] You're the new one, are you?

- Geordie's got a thing for Vicars.
- It's really fun to watch Geordie have to get a new vicar on his side.
- Have to.
Yeah, yeah.
- I have in the past come to your predecessors to ask for help.
- Alphy is reluctant to help Geordie at first.
- [Alphy] Godspeed Inspector.
- And it is really interesting to see how that develops.
- Slowly but surely, Geordie weaves him into the crime-solving web of Grantchester.
- Dad was murdered and I can prove it.
- In Season 9 of Grantchester, you can expect mystery, laughter, love.
So many things happen.
