[All] And we're Grasstime!
Welcome to "Bluegrass on the Rim" on APTV.
[Announcer] Welcome to "Bluegrass on the Rim 2025", featuring local favorite, Foggy Hollow Review, plus headliners from Nashville, Tennessee, Kristy Cox and Grasstime will perform later in the show.
Sit back and relax, and enjoy an hour of great bluegrass music on Alabama Public Television.
We'll kick off with Foggy Hollow Review.
There's only a handful of subjects we sing about in bluegrass.
That's trains, and animals, -and white whisky.
-And murder numbers.
And murder numbers, all of those.
Prisons.
And trains.
Oh my goodness, we sing about all the trains.
Here's one about building the train track.

We're getting ready to release a new album in six days' time.
And it's a gospel album.
I've never recorded a full gospel album before, but I'm excited.
I grew up listening to old time country music and bluegrass music, mainly in my granddaddy's Bronco truck.
We were driving around, and he had that old Bronco that was like two tone, like red and white.
You guys remember the one?
From like the 80s, 90s.
And I used to listen to the Grand Ole Opry with my granddad every weekend, and that's how I fell in love with bluegrass and country music.
And my parents, they weren't a big fan of bluegrass and country music, 'cause it was what their parents listened to, you see, so they were, they raised me on Heart and Pink Floyd and Deep Purple.
And Diesel, yes.
I introduced Cody to a guy named Diesel this week.
He's like all about it.
An Australian singer-songwriter.
So I had a nice mix.
But my granddad is the reason that I play music, and he's about to turn 90, and I got to see him about five weeks ago, which was awesome.
But he asked me about a year ago, he's got an aneurism in his brain and a clot in his heart, so they can't treat one without making the other worse.
And he said to me, he said, "Can you do me a favor, Kristy?"
I said, "What's that?"
Pop, and he goes, "Could you sing this song at my funeral?"
And I said, "No.
I can be there, but I can't sing."
And I felt really bad saying no to him, 'cause, you know, he's my pop, and I love him, but there's just no way in the world I could do that, so.
This is his favorite hymn, and it's my favorite hymn, and I recorded it on the gospel album for him, and I got to take it home five weeks ago and give him a copy of it, and I said, "I can't sing it at your funeral, Pop, because you're not gonna die.
You're gonna live forever.
But I did record it for you so you can listen to it any day you want."
So this is on the gospel album, and you'll all know it, I'm sure.

Sophia is going to Camp Riverside in Mentone for two weeks, so we're getting ready for opening day tomorrow, and we're gonna drop her off, but we wanted to come enjoy some bluegrass tonight.
[Interviewer] Who's more excited about that, you or her?
Probably me.
No!
-Me.
-But she's excited, too.
Well, one of my favorite things about moving to Alabama was finding the bluegrass scene that's so deeply rooted in this state, and I grew up in Florida, which does have a bluegrass scene in and of itself, but finding the Alabama bluegrass scene has been really exciting, and I, like two years ago, moved to the east side of the state, and keep hearing about this Bluegrass on the Rim event, and I finally am making it out for the first time, and I'm really excited to be here.
