Her sound on those recordings almost don't sound the same as the Mahalia we end up hearing.
It's a younger voice that has a sort of a higher quality to it.
She is going along with the traditional melodic and rhythmic signature of the songs.
It is not as freed up.
How would you say her voice in "Oh My Lord", recorded in 1937, changed, evolved.
I think it got better and better because with "Oh My Lord", first of all, if you've heard the pace of the song, she has some lungs because not everybody can sing that high and then sing back to back like that.
